Ruth Mawer
Equine Body Worker & Myofascial Release specialist

Prior to qualifying as an equine therapist, Ruth gained her wealth of anatomy and physiology knowledge from her background as a qualified registered general nurse and child health specialist.

Ruth's knowledge and passion for horses led her into equine therapy which she now practices full time as a qualified Equine Body Worker (EBW) specialising in Myofascial Release (MFR), Equine Sports Massage and Trigger Point Therapy.

Ruth assesses and treats each horse individually depending on presenting problems and will devise an ongoing program tailored to the needs of your horse. Ruth also uses and teaches pilates type exercises for horses to improve muscle use and core strength.

Common problems are the horse with a sore back, equine muscle injuries and equine behavioural changes secondary to pain issues. Many of Ruth's referrals come from a range of other equine professionals who have identified a possible physical problem.

As well as veterinarians and other equine professionals, Ruth also works closely with Tom Smith, a remedial farrier, offering a slow motion computerised gait analysis service. Gait analysis is extremely useful if you want to maximise the performance of your horse, record a quantitative picture of the current level of your horse for future comparison or to try to find a low grade lameness that is not obvious to the eye.

Based in Winchester Ruth practices mainly in Hampshire. Consultations further afield can be arranged by discussion. Please note that veterinary approval for equine therapy must be sought before treatment begins.
